**Experienced Professional Interpreter – Educational Settings and Community Outreach**

We are seeking an experienced Professional Interpreter to join our team at Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21, a dynamic organization dedicated to providing exceptional educational services to students in the Lehigh Valley region. **About Us** Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21 is a regional educational service agency that serves 13 school districts in the Lehigh Valley area. We are committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity, diversity, and excellence, and we believe that every individual deserves access to equal opportunities and resources. **Job Summary** As a Professional Interpreter, you will play a critical role in facilitating communication between deaf and hard of hearing students and their hearing peers, teachers, and other school personnel. You will provide expressive and voice interpreting services, including American Sign Language (ASL), manually coded English, and oral interpreting, to ensure that students have equal access to educational opportunities. You will also work collaboratively with teachers and other educational staff to develop effective strategies for inclusive learning and to provide support services to students and families. **Key Responsibilities** * Provide expressive and voice interpreting services for deaf and hard of hearing students in mainstream classes and various school settings * Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to develop effective strategies for inclusive learning and to provide support services to students and families * Interpret the language of the lesson, assignment, or test for deaf and hard of hearing students * Provide tutoring and/or note-taking services for deaf and hard of hearing students when interpreting is not needed * Participate in educational team meetings, providing insight on the success of communication strategies * Facilitate communication for deaf and hard of hearing students during the course of the educational day to anyone the student needs to interact with through the use of sign language, spoken English, cultural mediation, and knowledge about accessibility * Interpret within social and academic settings, including direct and overheard conversations, class instruction, lectures, tests, assemblies, and field trips * Render the message faithfully, always conveying the content and spirit of the speaker while using the language most readily understood by the person(s) being served * Understand CLIU #21 and/or departmental procedures and guidelines, as demonstrated by accurate application of procedures and guidelines * Assist in providing orientations of deafness to hearing students and staff * Discuss with teacher and student appropriate seating, lighting, acoustics, etc. **Essential Qualifications** * Bachelor's degree in Interpreting or a related field * Minimum of three years' experience in educational interpreting * Educational Interpreters Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.50 or higher * K-12 Educational Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) preferred * Strong understanding of current events, trends, and issues that may be discussed or cited by students in an interpreted situation * Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, understanding, and congeniality * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Ability to work collaboratively with external and internal stakeholders * Ability to maintain complete confidentiality * Ability to prioritize assigned tasks and complete tasks with attention to detail and accuracy * Ability to work independently and maintain departmental deadlines * Ability to make professional decisions and identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems * Philosophy of lifelong learning and commitment to professional development **Preferred Qualifications** * Master's degree in Interpreting or a related field * Advanced certification in educational interpreting (e.g., NIC, SC:L, or CI) * Experience working with students with diverse learning needs and abilities * Experience working in educational settings, including mainstream classrooms and special education programs * Familiarity with educational technology and software, including video conferencing platforms and online learning management systems **Skills and Competencies** * Strong
