Sr SAM Technical Specialist

The Sr SAM Technical Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the organization’s software assets are effectively managed, optimized, and compliant. This mid-level, individual contributor position will support the Software Asset Management (SAM) team by driving compliance monitoring, entitlement reconciliation, and SaaS integration activities. The role requires strong technical and analytical skills, with the ability to translate licensing and ITIL knowledge into actionable outcomes within ServiceNow SAM Pro. Key Responsibilities • Monitor and maintain software license compliance across enterprise vendors (Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, and others). • Create software entitlements from PO data in the SAM tool on a weekly basis. • Test and help shape our AI tool that automatically reads contracts and extracts key data for ServiceNow SAM Pro uploads. • Provide vendor audit support, ensuring accurate data collection, reporting, and risk mitigation. • Manage renewals, true-ups, and license reconciliations to maintain alignment with contracts and entitlements. • Conduct data analysis and reporting within ServiceNow, leveraging SQL and Excel, to support decision-making. • Collaborate with Product Owners and Consultants to support lifecycle management, usage tracking, and optimization initiatives. • Perform discovery and reconciliation of installations versus entitlements, ensuring accurate inventory. • Configure and maintain ServiceNow SAM Pro connectors for SaaS applications, supporting discovery, usage tracking, and optimization. • Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to optimize software spend, reduce risk, and improve processes. Tools & Systems • ServiceNow SAM Pro (primary tool) • Excel • SQL • CMDB and ITIL-aligned processes • Strong proficiency with Excel and data analysis. • Working knowledge of SQL for reporting and reconciliation. • Licensing knowledge of major software publishers (Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, etc.). • ITIL familiarity with proven ability to apply ITIL principles within SAM processes. • Demonstrated ability to translate licensing and ITIL knowledge into ServiceNow SAM Pro outcomes. Preferred Qualifications • Certifications: ITAM, CSAM, HAM, ITIL v4, and ServiceNow SAM Pro certifications. • Experience with SaaS optimization. • Familiarity with procurement, vendor management, and contract review. Soft Skills • Analytical mindset with attention to detail. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with IT, procurement, and business stakeholders. • Capable of working under pressure during audits and true-up cycles.
