Institutional Research Data Scientist
Job Summary:
The Institutional Research Data Scientist is responsible for serving the university community by designing data models for descriptive and predictive insights to support data-informed decision-making thereby enhancing institutional effectiveness.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Serves as primary developer of data sources to provide strategic Business Intelligence (BI) support for colleges, departments, and administrators.
2. Analyzes and interprets data using various statistical techniques (regression, clustering, machine learning) to create predictive models and deliver high level insights from complex data sets.
3. Develops and deploys models to improve outcomes, efficiencies and operations related to planning and strategic initiatives.
4. Collaborates with Associate Director to create dashboards and visualizations to communicate findings and support data-informed decision making.
5. Works closely with campus partners to understand data needs and tailor analytic solutions.
6. Develops processes and programming to clean and organize data to be more readily used including collection of data from internal and external sources.
7. Creates new features from existing data, when appropriate, and prepares data for analysis.
8. Explores data to identify potential relationships and patterns.
9. Models and maintains operational data sets needed by campus partners by leveraging official sources and supplemental data.
10. Supports federal and state mandated reporting, associations reporting, and rankings reporting.
11. Responds to ad hoc requests for information and assists with IR publications.
12. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending education workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks.
13. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
? Master?s degree in data science, statistics or related field
? 4 years? experience in data analytics, including data and statistical modeling
OR
? Bachelor?s degree in data science, statistics or related field
? 6 years? experience in data analytics, including data and statistical modeling
Preferred Education & Experience:
? PhD in technical field with research related to analytics
? Higher education or institutional research experience
Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training:
? None
Preferred Licensure, Certification, and/or Specialized Training:
? Tableau Desktop
? Tableau Prep
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
? Skill with analytics tools such as Python, R, SQL and Tableau.
? Knowledge of data collection and analysis techniques.
? Knowledge of data cleaning processes, predictive modeling and machine learning techniques.
? Knowledge of student information systems (PeopleSoft preferred).
? Ability to derive insight from large amounts of data and disparate sources.
? Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing, presenting complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
? Skill in MS Office suite.
? Ability to prioritize, organize, and work independently, or part of a team, to achieve objectives in a timely manner.

Work Environment:
? Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
? This role is an on campus, in-person position.
? There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job.
? The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
